Veterinary Assistant

We are hiring a full or part-time vet assistant to join the  SNP Team. We are a high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter clinic that is a member of and follow the high standards of the ASPCA Humane Alliance model for spay/neuter surgery.

The ideal candidate must be willing to learn new skills, motivated, able to focus and stay on task amidst distractions, work well as a member of a team, have a passion for caring for animals, excellent customer services skills, and be able to lift heavy animals as part of the duties.

Veterinary Assistant Duties and Responsibilities will be the following, but not limited to:

*Ability to work in a high-volume surgical setting Serve as assistant to our Lead Vet Tech

*Assist with surgery intake and preparation of the surgical suite

*Prepare animals for surgery and ensure sterility is maintained

*Monitor animals during surgery and after during anesthesia recovery

*Ability to take direction and feedback in learning new skills

*Ability to work alongside staff members, including other veterinary assistants

*Ability to restrain animals properly and safely for medical procedures and examination

*Ability to stay calm and attentive when handling fearful or aggressive animals

*Ability to help clean the veterinary clinic to help prevent the spread of disease. Cleaning entails sweeping, mopping, sanitizing kennels, doing laundry a restocking exam rooms/surgery. Our clinic has a high standard of cleanliness and patient care and all staff are involved with cleaning.

*Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.

*The position requires lifting heavy dogs with an ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted and 90 pounds assisted

*Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and tools

*Clean and sanitize surgery suite and set up for the following day

*Ensure exam and operating rooms are stocked

*Ensure all cages and kennels are kept clean as well as clean and disinfect all kennels at end of the day and assist with end of day cleaning.

Work hours: Tuesday-Friday 7:15 am to 5:30 pm.

Experience: Veterinary assistant or relative work experience preferred

Education: High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Hourly rate - $10.30 - $12/hour based on experience
